Jesus Brings Joy
January 8, 2011
There was grief in the city of Nain. The only son of a widow was dead. You can imagine how grieved this widow was. When death invades a family, it brings the worst moment in the live of the members; so much that you wish it were a dream and when you wake up things would be fine. In this case, it was not a dream, the only son of his mother was dead and funeral arrangements were already done.
The entire city came to mourn with her. They formed a procession towards the cemetery outside the city. The pal bearers would be in the front followed by the mother and the rest of the city residents following. You can imagine the wailing, grieve, and hopelessness.
When they arrived at the gate, all of a sudden a group emerges. This group, you could tell from their faces; they were happy and joyous. It was Jesus, His disciples and a great multitude coming to the city. A day before, Jesus had healed the centurion servant in the city of Capernaum. They had a reason to be happy.
When Jesus saw the widow He felt for her and comforted her with these words: don’t cry. He went further and touched the coffin. Those who carried the coffin stood still. Then Jesus said to the dead person ““Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country”. (Luke 7:14b-17)
The arrival of Jesus changed the city of Nain from grief to Joy. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). He will meet you at the height of your troubles. Wait upon him and trust that he will come. Your situation will never be the same again.
